Topic:   V5 has Supplier but no Manufacturer?

By: IAFGPosted on: Jun 6 2019 at 11:37:28 AM
I'm evaluating. I don't see where a manufacturer or a part can be listed.
Typically there is a supplier, a manufacturer and even a distributor.
For an internal part, there may also be multiple suppliers and a supplier may often have multiple manufacturers. Am i missing this functionality in V5?

If you click the small arrow next to a supplier you can set as a manufacturer.

In the menu on the left of the program window you see the 'Contacts' menu. There you can add your suppliers, their names, addresses and contact details etc.

In the Item detail window - that's the window where you can edit an item's description etc - you see a row of tabs across the middle of the window. One of those tabs is 'Suppliers'. Using that dialog you can connect any number of suppliers to the item. An item can have an unlimited number of suppliers. You can also define one of those suppliers as the Manufacturer. When you do that a new column appears with the text MFR. So an supplier can also be the manufacturer allowing you to purchase direct from from the manufacturer if you want.

I am also evaluating the software and am a bit stumped here. Typically a manufacturers is related to a supplier.

For example (just using stuff, not real) I could set Digikey, Arrow and Mouser as suppliers. I could have Kemet as a manufacturer and available from all 3 and Vishay as a manufacturer but only available from Digikey.

The way I see you have set it up, there is no link from supplier to manufacturer?

Sorry Shawn. In MiniMRP you can have an unlimited number of suppliers for an item and one of those can be defined as the manufacturer.

It basically assumes that if a product is available from a different manufacturer then it can not be identical and therefore will have a different part number.

I do understand that parts from different manufacturers can often be interchangeable - ie if Part_A is not available then Part_B can be used in its place. Also that one failing in MiniMRp is that it does not automatically consume alternate/interchangeable parts. That is something we'll look at in future - but that's not what you're asking about so I won't go into more detail about that except to say that if/when that update is released it will assume that the interchangeable parts from different manufacturers will always have a diferent part number.
