Topic:   Shortages for Work Order: Order Before Column is red with 1/1/001

Newbie to miniMRP (love it so far), but when I run a shortages for an open customer work order, all values in the Order Before column are red and are 1/1/0001. Looks like to me that field should be looking at the due date of the customer work order vs. the lead time(days) of the item and tell me when I need to order the item. All my items have lead times associated with them and I have a required by date in the Customer Order. Any advice?

You are correct in that MRP looks at the "Due Date" of the work order vs the Lead Time of the components to calculate an "Order Before" date.

But if the Work Order does not have a Due Date then the calculation results in an error which displays red 01/01/0001

Are you sure your Work Order has a Due Date/Build Date?

I'm talking about the Work Order 'Build Date'. Not the delivery date of the item on the customer order.

I agree the a Red "01/01/0001" is not ideal but, in the current version, we're not classing this as a bug. In the next version we'll simply hide the "Order Before" column and/or cells when they're not relevant.

I did not have a work order build date. I entered one and it fixed the red 1/1/001. Thanks!

If you're using the Work Order shortage report to for planning your purchase orders please remember that the work order shortage report ONLY shows shortages for that order and ignores all other work orders which may be calling for the same components.

If multiple work orders are calling for the same components then you really should look at the 'Reports' menu and see the shortage forecast there. that report combines all work orders to give you total requirements taking all work orders, customer orders and purchase orders into consideration.
