Hi Support,

Would it possible to open an assembly from the "used in" tab?
I can open items from the BOM menu, but can only drill down.

Many thanks,

Steve

In the TODO list. Sorry can't give any timescale but it's something we'll look at soon.

Steve. We're doing this (Update at the end of Feb 2020) but I fear the functionality might not be as helpful as you think.

I suppose if a component was not common so was only used in one sub assembly which in turn was only used in one parent assembly (etc, etc up the levels) then you could, as you say, 'drill up' to get to the top level product.

But, in reality, many components are common and if they're used in many sub assemblies which in turn are used in a number of parent assemblies then the number of top level products increases and in order to see the whole picture you'll have so many tabs and BOMs open you won't be able to see the wood for the trees.

I think this new functionality will be useful for 'drilling up' from rarely used components (which is why we're doing it). And maybe common components are so well known that you won'tneed to drill them up anyway.

But please tell us what you want to achieve and we may be able to think of a better way to report on the actual data that you do want.

Hi Support,

When I have a item open and select the "used in" Tab I would like to be able to pick the higher level assembly from the list and open it.

Steve.

Steve. I understood 'what' you wanted to do. I was just wondering 'why' you wanted to do in case there was some additional functionality we could add to make it easier/quicker than going through the Used In tab.

Anyway - this next update in a few days - When you 're looking at the item detail 'Used In' tab you'll be able to 'double click' an assembly and that will open that assembly's detail. I suppose you could then go to that item's used in tab to go up to the next level - and so on up the levels.

But you'll also be able to 'right-click' an assembly in the used in tab and open the assembly's Parts List/BOM.

Hi Support,

Yes, I can work my way up the levels.
I would like to see all the items upward level assembly's, but as you say this could get complicated.

Keep up the good work,

Steve

Version 5.0.66's new "drill up from the Used In tab" feature works well. Thanks.
