Topic:   Creating a Customer Order from a Work Order

By: AmandaPosted on: Oct 15 2020 at 02:29:27 PM
I am trying to create a customer order for an assembly, and I do not have the option to add assemblies to the customer order, only the components created in the database. Is there a way to do that? Or to add the work order to the customer order? The assemblies were made to prevent adding 50 items at once to a customer's order, but instead be able to select one item, and bill them that way.
If anyone can help this would be great, otherwise I'll have to find another database.

Oh, another thing. I need the supplier part number to show up, not the internal part number.

Why can't you add the finished assembly to a customer order?

Of course you can do that. When you creat the customer order you have the button in the middle/lower right side of the window to add items. Click that and a small window appears. Here you can select ANY items from your inventory. Just sort or filter to find the assembly and add it to the customer order? Doesn't that work?

Yup. I figured that out way too late after posting this. But the customer order does not show itemized components from the assembly, nor does it show relevant supplier and part number, or cost. I have to enter in the cost manually, rather than it pulling from the assembly.

The customer order does not show the itemised components. No. It doesn't. It's not supposed to. I suspect MiniMRP is not the software/product you need.

MiniMRP is primarily a manufacturing tool. Manufacturer as in somebody who buys all the components and builds a finished product and sells that finished product.

I don't know what kind of products you sell. But let's say, for arguments sake, you build and sell computer keyboards. Your customer buys a keyboard. The customer order therefore only shows the keyboard That's what the customer is buying. The customer order does not list all the individual keys and switches contained inside a keyboard.

That would assume you build the keyboard and the customer buys the complete keyboard. (customer is not buying a bag of components)

To view the complete BOM, open the assembly then select "View indented BOM" from the 3 bar button. The complete BOM should show up. To view the vendor name and P/N, select "Show/Hide Columns" from the 3 bar button and select which columns you want visible. You must be viewing the indented BOM to select the columns.

I don't build anything but MiniMRP works well for me.

I sell lego kits. My inventory is full of all the different sort of bricks and parts made by lego. One of my products is a walking raptor with motors, sensors and smart brick and dozens of other parts.

Some of my kits can contains hundreds of different parts. There's no way I would want the customer order to list all these individual parts.

As an example the customer orders a raptor kit and I create a customer order for 1 x raptor kit.

I create a work order which generates a bill of materials basically a packing list of all the parts necessary to build 1 x raptor.

Somebody goes to the storeroom to pick all the parts into bags. Puts it all in a box. Puts the packing list into the box and ship the box to the customer.
The delivery documents and the invoice to the customer just show 1 x raptor kit. The packing list, received by the customer in the box, shows the individual components (with manufacturer's part number). The customer order does need to.

Forgot to mention you can get to the assembly by double clicking the part number from the customer order or from the list of assemblies.

Thanks for your feedback everyone.

If i understand Amanda's original question correctly she would like to select the assembly and instead of the assembly appearing in the customer order she wants the components of the assembly to appear in the customer order (assembly not appearing at all). I think Amanda wants the assembly to act as a kind of shortcut as a way to add a group of parts to a customer order without having to select them all individually.

Not something MiniMRP does.
