Can't upload a csv download from 4.0 to demo 5.0. The csv file does not show up as a file that can be uploaded.

Why are you working with CSV. You can take the whole v4 database into v5
In v4 make a backup (Bottom of the menu bar on the left)
In v5 restore that backup.
But to answer your original question - there should be no reason why a CSV from v4 can't be imported into v5 or vice versā. But it shouldn't be necessary. To test v5 with a copy of your v4 data just backup/restore as explained above.
