Looking for parts to add to an assembly is far superior in Version 4 than in Version 5. I won’t upgrade until there’s a category drop down filter box like Version 4 had. I saw this discussed a year ago that it was going to be looked at to try and sort out some sort of drilldown by category so you can quickly list all items in a category and then start typing into the filter blocks to trim components down even further. @ support, any time frame or progress on this.

In v4 you could ONLY group by category and there was a prominent drop-down box for filtering on a category.

I guess you're missing that dropdown box in v5.

The discussion a year ago that you refer to resulted in what we have today.

In v5 that drop down box doesn't exist. You can now filter on ANY column.

So. To get at a specific category just click the category column header and you see the filter and search options.

I accept that simply selecting a category from a drop down box was quick but only when you want to select a specific category. It was no good at all if you were looking for a word or even partial word within a description or maybe just the first few characters of a category name which could then include multiple similar categories.

In v5 - the ability to search for ANYTHING IN ANY COLUMN (or even multiple columns) could not be achieved by a single drop down box so, I'm afraid, the new flexibility requires a couple or extra mouse clicks or keypresses.

Having said that I do notice that the grid includes supplier's part number but not the supplier's name. We'll probably add more columns to improve this selection grid but I don't imagine we'll go back to the old drop-down list method for categories - otherwise we'd also need a drop down list for all the other searchable columns as well.
