Topic: Batch Importing BOMS

Can you batch import BOMS?
I have complete assemblies that would need to be imported. There can be 5-6 levels sometimes, so have to do that many imports is problematic and time consuming.
Can I add a column to the CSV telling it which assembly it belongs too?

We hope to improve this in the not too distant future.
To be honeat its never been high on our list of priorities because very few people ask for it to be improved but, as you said, if you have a complex multilevel bom with many sub assemblies it is far from perfect.

The Software is listed as handling unlimited BOM levels. You need to be able to handle mor than one BOM level at a time.

It 'can' handle multilevel BOMs. You can create and work with multilevel boms using the software.
The problem we're discussing is the ability to import multilevel boms that were created using other software.
JHS. In response to some of your other posts I do want ro remind you that miniMrp was never intended to be a full MRP package. Its meant to be a small, easy to use, inventory program with a sub-set of mrp-like features that many users appreciate. "mini" mrp.
We have recently introduced an enterprise edition of miniMrp which, in future, will allow us to add more features, increase the complexity AND increase the price of that edition without alienating 20 years of "mini" mrp users. So, your feedback is appreciated and will certainly influence future development but please make any decision to purchase miniMrp based on the features you have in the current release.

Support: thank you for listening to your customers.
I know and did not mean to imply that MiniMRP cannot handle multilevel BOMs, it obviously can. Yes we are talking about importing multilevel BOMs and my intent is to make MiniMRP to use, not to offend.

JHS - We're certainly not offended. Just wanted to remind you of the "mini" in the product name and that we need to be careful that we don't 'blow the budget' so to speak.
Over the years we've discussed the importing of multi-level BOMs a couple of times but users just seem too busy to discuss it much - they just get to grips with the current method and find that although it's not perfect it does work.
As I mentioned above - importing of multi-level boms is something that we do want to improve and it should be done quite soon.

Hey! Been looking at a lot of other ERP/MRP software and Systems out there. We have a very complex BoM, 9 levels, :). A simple solution/suggestion on how to include this feature (Batch importing) into MiniMRP.
1. Load all the inventory parts into Mini MRP
2. Make the BOM import process general, instead of specific to a chosen assembly.
3. BOM Import same fields as you have except one (1) additional field, which would be the parent/assembly number.
With the addition of the parent/assembly number to the BOM import you can go as many levels deep as you want, connecting up the parent child relationships. Hope this gives you some good ideas.
This is an essential feature for lowering the barriers to getting started with your software. Especially for people moving from excel or another system to MiniMRP.

As you can see, importing MultiLevel Assemblies is something we keep coming back to. People ask for it but then when we try to go into detail people just don't actually know what they want or don't have the time. They just get on with using it as it is.
Would you be able to send us a CSV file containing one of your '9 level' BOMS in the format that you'd like us to import?
Nobody else has bothered sending one in so you're in an ideal position to 'fix the standard' so to speak. If you BOM layout is sensible we'll import that layout.
Actually doesn't need to be real BOM if you don't want to send a real one. Just a mock-up which we can look at - give us some ideas.

Has this been solved. , want to understand how we can import this data in

we're about to release an update that can import MultiLevel BOMs.
Would you like to email us and we can discuss it.

Latest version 5.0.6 can import multilevel BOMs.
Please take a look at that and let us know if it works for you.
v5 PreRelease/Trial available here
The main difference between v4 and v5 is that v5 allows you to select a column for the "Level" of each component and sub assembly within the BOM.
There's also a new 'Import Master Assemblies' button which allows you to select a CSV without first creating or selecting the parent assembly/assemblies.
