Topic:   Sorting the parts list

I have parts in two different formats due to a change in processing. A part in the format 0015-0099 will show up higher on the list then the previous format of a part like 0015-98. Can I change the way the list is organized to reflect the correct order? Thanks.

We have the same problem. The way we solved it was to designate one of the Custom Fields for use as a "sort key". In your case, we would set the "sort key" field for part 0015-0099 as "0099", and the "sort key" for part 0015-98 as "0098". In the Inventory list, clicking on the "sort key" column header sorts the parts as desired.

The part number is an AlphaNumeric field. It can contain letters and numbers. So the sort is alphanumeric where "AB" comes before "BC". And "00.." comes before "98".

Only way to fix that is to edit your part numbers so that they are the same format. "0098" and "0099" would then sort correctly.

To the original poster. It seems your part numbers are not correctly formatted. If you want to sort your items then you need to give them a common format. "0015-0098" and "0015-0099" etc.
